A network is nothing more than two or more computers connected by a cable or by a wireless connection so that they can communicate and exchange information or data.
In other words “Network Means a collection of interconnected computer network of stand-alone computer. The connection can be over copper, fiber optic, microwave and satellite communications.

Home Network

In home a user can take internet service from ISPs (Wi-Fi, WiMAX, Optical Fiber). User device need an IP address to go to Internet, this IP can be assigned statically or dynamically.
There’s also another classification of IPs, which are- Public IP and Private IP.  While accessing internet, the private IP requires mapping, whereas public IP doesn’t require mapping.
ISPs denote a specific amount of bandwidth to a certain home user, if the user exceeds that bandwidth then the connection will still go on and the charging will be usage based on a mechanism defined by the ISP.

Type of Internet Service Provider
There are 3 ways a network can be connected, which are-

  • Wi-Fi
  • Optical Fiber

The mechanism of these connectivity are as followed-


If user PC is within the frequency of the internet service provider (ISP). ISPs provide the SSID name and password, through which user device (PC, Mobile) can get connected to internet. Some ISP also authenticate the user by user device MAC. For connectivity, device of the home user need to have Wi-Fi capability.


Service Provider provide preconfigured adapter to connect their Network. Some provider allow this adapter MAC to go to internet and some provider provide additional username& password to authenticate user.

Optical Fiber

If an ISP provide a connection through cable, then it connects to either the Media Converter (MC) or Optical Network Unit (ONU) of the home user’s device. Later we connect either MC or ONU with an access point or home network PC.

Corporate Network

Most of the Modern Corporate office has computer network. They do networking in their office for various purposes.

Purposes of a Corporate Network

  • Internet Access-
  • Own Domain/ DNS (Domain Name system)- it is used for corporate website, external mail communication
  • Mail System
  • Inter Branch Communication
  • Access Office Network for Internet
  • Promotional SMS Blasting Platform
  • Promotional Outbound IVR Call Blasting Platform
  • IP/PABX- for internal& external voice communication

How requirements are met

Internet Access

ISPs provide connection to the router situated in the corporate house by providing a real IP, later the IP assign private IPs to the nodes/devices in the network, which allows the devices to access to internet.

Own Domain/ DNS (Domain Name system)


  • Purchasing domain from vendors
  • DNS server will be situated in the office premises
  • DNS server’s  local IP needs to be mapped with real IP in the router
  • The real IP will assign the name as a domain in the Domain Control Panel

Mail System


  • Need to configure a server for Mail Communication
  • Mail server’s  local IP needs to be mapped with real IP in the router
  • The real IP will assign as Mail Exchange Address in the Domain Control Panel

Inter Branch Communication

  • For this the router need to have VPN capability
  • Remote branch VPN- Site to site VPN configuration required

Access Office Network from Internet

By configuring PPTP in router, one can access internet in an office environment.

SMS Blasting Platform

SMS gateway need to be configured in the router. Promotions can be done on a daily basis from the router’s Configuration Panel -, while inputting the list of Caller Ids and the text in the SMS.

Outbound IVR Call Blasting Platform

Outbound Dialer need to be configured in router. It can be used as promotional purposes, like the way SMS gateway is used, except for one change, where the input changes to media file in the Call instead of text in the SMS.


For external communication, Internet Protocol Telephony Service Providers (IPTSP) connection need to be integrated with router. Provided information from IPTSP will be configured in router. For digital receptionist, IVR tree needs to configure in router. For internal communication, extension creation will be configured in router.
